Congratulations to Sahika Inal, #KAUST Associate Professor of Bioengineering, on being shortlisted for the Nature Portfolio Research Awards for Inspiring Women in Science in the Scientific Achievement category!

Dr. Sahika Inal is being recognized for her contributions to the bioelectronics field of research.

Sahika Inal’s field of research is bioelectronics. She is investigating organic electronic materials and devices that address research, clinical health monitoring, and therapy needs. She originally studied to be a textile engineer but discovered she had broader interests in polymer science and the applications of carbon-based semiconductors. Fascinated by the materials at the interface between life sciences and electronics, she wanted to explore the potential of these materials for recording small biological signals and modulating biological events. After completing a Ph.D. degree in experimental physics, she pursued this new line of research. Since October 2016, she has  served as an Assistant Professor of Bioengineering at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), with affiliations in Electrical Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering. She’s proud of leading a team of highly motivated students and postdoctoral researchers to make breakthroughs in biomedical device development and to explore electronic material properties and interactions with biological systems.
